Parental allowance rising to CZK 400,000 and super-benefit changes: what the Senate approved

On 29 July 2026 the Senate approved raising the parental allowance to CZK 400,000 and adjustments to the super-benefit (DSSP). We summarise the changes, the dates and the current legislative status.

On Wednesday 29 July 2026 the Czech Senate approved raising the parental allowance to CZK 400,000 and, at the same time, adjustments to the so-called super-benefit — the state social assistance benefit (DSSP). Here is what exactly changes, from when it should apply and its current legislative status.

Current legislative status

The Senate approved the proposal, but it is not yet a valid law. It still needs the president's signature and publication in the Collection of Laws. The proposed effective dates are: - for the higher parental allowance, from 1 January 2027, - for the super-benefit (DSSP) changes, from 1 October 2026.

Parental allowance rises to CZK 400,000

- The total amount rises from CZK 350,000 to CZK 400,000 for a household with one youngest child. - For twins and multiple births it rises from CZK 700,000 to CZK 800,000. - The increase applies only to children born from 1 January 2027 (or taken into permanent care replacing parental care after the law takes effect). - Only the amount changes — the purpose, entitlement conditions, eligible persons and payout method stay the same, and no new obligations arise. For comparison, under Act No. 117/1995 Coll. the parental allowance is currently CZK 350,000 for the youngest child born from 1 January 2024 (up to age 3), or CZK 300,000 for a child born before 1 January 2024 (up to age 4).

What the super-benefit (DSSP) is

The state social assistance benefit, the super-benefit, has been running since 2026 (applications were open from 1 October 2025). It merged four former benefits into one: - child allowance, - housing allowance, - living allowance, - housing supplement. A single application per household is filed and can be handled online. The benefit has four components: living, housing, child bonus and work bonus.

What changes in the super-benefit

The Senate approved two changes to the super-benefit parameters. - Stronger protection for single parents. Increased protection previously applied only to single parents with a child up to age 7; the limit now rises to age 15. These parents will be classified as vulnerable households with more favourable recognition of housing costs. According to the ministry this affects about 28,238 households, with an average increase of roughly CZK 2,216 per month. - More accurate housing norms. Instead of the previous three broad categories, housing costs will now be set by 77 districts. For ordinary households the 50th percentile (the typical rent in the district) is used, and for vulnerable households the 75th percentile. Existing recipients do not need to file a new application because of the changes. The Labour Office will contact them in advance and recalculate the benefit at the regular review of entitlement.

What it means in practice

The higher parental allowance (CZK 400,000) will apply to families with children born from 1 January 2027 — not to children born earlier. The super-benefit changes will improve the position of single parents with school-age children and families in higher-cost regions, and will be reflected in the benefit automatically at recalculation.
